Exams Finally Over, it's time...

Exams are finally over, but it's not the end. I've still got more battles to fight. I can't say that so far i've been victorious, but with the blessings from God above, every fight brought me to a higher plane, to bring glory and honour to God. I thank God for giving me the strength to endure the past 2 weeks of what i describe as a twister of my biological clock. Praise be to God. Halleuljah!

Been really busy with the renovations of the new house. Got to make sure the renovations are to what we want, the outdoor landscape, the lights, the fittings, the curtains, the solar film, the furniture. It's all a challenge, especially the furniture, because the house is so small that whatever furniture we get has to be very compact in order for space to walk. So far, we have decided not to have a dining table in our living/dining area as the challenge was far too great, and would compromise the comfort. So we bought an outdoor ratten dining table set and a swing all to be placed on the roof terrace. Sweet ain't it? Don't really need a dining table because we seldom cook anyway. And most of the time it's packed food or individual bowls, sitting in front of the TV and have our meals. Then we had to find the smallest possible sofa. A proper 2 seater would actually fit, but would disallow usage of the marble-laid bay window which we paid good money for. We have narrowed our choice to an oval shaped sofa which is unique and comfortable. Looking at the pace of the renovation, it is most likely we can start moving-in in 1st week of December. Rejoice!

Acer desktop crashed!

ARGH! My Acer desktop just crashed. Hardware failure i believe. Monitor unable to receive any input from the CPU, and there is no sound from the starting of Windows. What is this man... a product so unreliable? I pin-point it to my graphics card, awaiting for a reply from Acer. My ASUS laptop did not even give me any hardware problem, just had to replace the keyboard and LCD screen due to wear and tear. I'm not going to buy another Acer. Please do not buy too!

Morning Blues

Mochi's been naughty again. Mum is displeased and says she won't allow her at the new house. Sigh... I'll try to teach Mochi proper behaviour.

Anyway, the interior designer has indicated that the renovations would be done by end November. That's kinda long isn't it? He needs 8 weeks starting from 1st week of October. In any case, i shall drop by periodically to enjoy my new house.

Driving Nirvana - The Roads to Mount Ophir

The driving route to Gunung Ledang was simply stunning. It's nestled in a little town with roads lined with lush green forests, huge fields and palm tree plantations. It was simply driving nirvana! I have always wanted to drive along the East Coast of Malaysia, and i finally got a taste of what is it like though it's not East Malaysia there, but Central. I hope to be able to drive on such roads again.

Evelyn's Dad has gone Home to the Lord

I have only met Evelyn once. Colin invited me to the St. Francis Saviour Catholic Church some time back as they had a funfair. I do not really remember what she looked like, but from what Colin told me, she just got married about a month back. And her birthday's this coming Thursday. 3 days ago, her dad was admitted into SGH for pneumonia. Last night, things turned for the worse. Blood was in the lungs. This probably meant internal bleeding and could choke the patient. He passed away at about 930pm. Colin received the news about things turning for the worse when he was coming to meet us for our project meeting at 7pm. He left early at 840pm and the rest of us continued discussing. Pneumonia in old people is very dangerous, and i knew that chances of winning the battle was slim due to his age of 60+. I was saddened when I was told that the battle was lost. Anyhow, i said a little prayer in my heart for Evelyn's family, and hope that they would pull through this unexpected turn of events, like what I did too just 1 year 1 month ago. In the precious name of Jesus, Father please bless the family with strength to cope through this difficult moments. Amen.

New Mazda 3 MPS

Hot right? The new Mazda 3 MPS (Mazda Performance Series)... The hatchback is a thing of a beauty. Now it looks fierce. The normal 3 is wholly underpowered. This turbocharged 2.3-litre engine with 260bhp and 380Nm of torque is a powerplant! Hot spicy red flavour of the month! I doubt we will see it on our shores though - its predecessor failed to make it.

Goodbye Puma Sneakers

So so sad... Who is that !@#$%^&*() who stole my PUMA SNEAKERS?!?! Bless the person who took my sneakers, bless the person to not do it again and do good things with my pair of sneakers. Father please forgive whoever took it. He must have been desperate or he wouldn't have committed this act. Amen.

Training Progression Report

I'm training for the StandChart Marathon. Today's training was another round of 1 hour jog on the trackmill. Last Thursday, i clocked around 8km. Today, i did 9km. But this is too slow! The marathon is on the 2nd December 2009. 42km of sweat and endurance. I should aim to do 12km next, then 15km, 18km, 21km, 24km, 27km, 30km, 33km, 36km... then stop. LoL... But i think i may just train till 18km. I can't imagine running for so long on the trackmill. It is just too boring... 18km will probably require 2 hours based on my lousy stamina, at best. Jia lat...

Anyway, i signed up for Run For Hope 2009. 22nd November 2009. Sign up today! Registration closes 16th October 2009.

Run For Hope (RFH)
is an annual charity event organized by Four Seasons Hotel Singapore, The Regent Singapore and the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) to raise much-needed funds for cancer research.

The Regent Singapore

National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS)

In the last 16 years, over S$3.2 million have been raised. What started as a small event with 300 runners, has grown steadily throughout the years. Reputed to be the single longest running event in support of cancer research in Singapore, RFH has seen over 80,000 runners since 1993! Last year the family-themed event witnessed around 6,000 participants. It is the goal of the RFH Committee to achieve 10,000 participants by 2010.

The NCC Research Fund (NCCRF) is the flagship fundraising and grant-making channel of NCCS for an array of basic, translational and clinical research programmes. Administered by the NCC Foundation, NCCRF fulfills two funding objectives - Seeding and Bridging. Seeding funds to facilitate emerging projects in cancer research and Bridging funds to ensure a sustainable productive momentum essential for ongoing research.

Last year, more than $330,000 was raised in benefit of lung cancer. Lung cancer patients will now benefit from a new technology - an auto-fluorescent bronchoscope machine that would detect lung cancer in the early stages, thereby greatly increasing the success of intervention and treatment.

Praise Be to God

I've not touched a bowling ball for many years already. And neither have i played pool since i left Army, where i hardly played as well because 1) it costs 50 cents per game 2) i sux. And can u imagine, i did both things on Saturday? I played 4 games. 1st game i had a miserable 40 points whereas the rest had more than 80 points. But guess what? I won the 2nd, 3rd game and came in 2nd for the 4th game, which ended with a double strike (if not for that, i would have been last but gotten a respectable 70+ points). This would not have happened had it not been for the blessings i gotten. Coz after the 1st game, i was totally embarrassed and just wanted to stop playing and hide myself in a hole. But i prayed and i said "God, this game is for you"... and played fantastically... actually not really, but i beat the other seasoned players. Haha... And then i played pool... somehow that confidence just rode along with me. Prior to the games, i even played those machines which grab soft toys. It was my virgin attempt too, and guess what? I picked a Mario Dino! Wah lao... prayer did helped. So guys, if you need anything, just pray. Praise be to God!

Hating the petrol price increase

I'm sure you have heard about the petrol price increase. And even cent hurts my pocket. I went to pump petrol at Caltex yesterday near my school. I'm the type who only pumps $50 at each go, the reason being lesser fuel in the tank means lesser weight in the car means better fuel economy, and also it hurts lesser on the pocket psychologically. And while doing so, i looked around the station, and was shocked. All the cars were pumping in around $100 worth of petrol into their cars... and you have cars like the Hyundai Sonata, BMW 3-series, Honda Accord etc... all with big fuel tanks. And most of them pumped RON98, the most expensive at Caltex. =\ And my petrol was ard $45 after discounts... and that will last me for around 4-5 days. Zzz... No matter what price petrol is at, we just have to swallow, hard.

Hiking @ Bukit Timah Nature Reserve

I went hiking today at Bukit Timah hill... this was the 1st time i attempted a hike there. And i did it all alone. Initially, my plan was to dash all the way, but just a few steps into the Cave trail, i encountered high never-ending steps. That devoured all my energy and by the time i finished that flight of steps, i was panting, recuperating whatever energy i could. And then i looked into the distance, i saw - more flights of steps!!! Not bad eh, train my leg power. The trail had so many obstacles in the form of big roots, fallen branches and eroded soil creating small little craters. And while doing so, i had songs from my iPhone blaring through my sports earphones. I think i looked like a real idiot, dressed inappropriately for a dirty hike trail in my very clean Nike track shoes. As its name suggest, the Cave trail has caves. You actually pass by the opening of 2 caves, but the entrances are barred with iron bars and locked. It kinda looked creepy, and as i was all alone, my imagination went wild, thinking of huge monsters or dinosaurs.. keke...

After completing the Cave trail, i passed by the path leading to the Rock trail. So i thought i should use that to get back to the foot of the hill. Alas, i realised it was a nightmare with huge rocks littered on the path. I had to jump from side to side just to get moving. And then i couldn't continue - for there was 1 part with a very steep descend on rocks, and then after which was the continuation of the trail. I decided i couldn't do it. I would risk getting hurt if i my attempt wasn't done properly. So back to hopping and jumping to get back to where i came from.

When i finally got to the foot of the hill, i went to the granite quarry. The quarry was 18m below sea level, and the water is now 17m above sea level! So which means the total depth is 35m! Wow! I wouldn't want to swim in there. Dad and i used to go there to admire the scenery, after having lots of fun on the bike trail. I missed those days - i would be riding on a proper mountain bike, and he used a foldable bike! The foldable bike is not even built for such torturous terrain, but did it because we had only 1 mountain bike. When he was in hospital, i told him that he must recover so we can go there again. But it's ok, i know he's always there for me.
